The Royal Parks set out to transform a disused plant nursery in the heart of The Regent’s Park into a new two-acre garden to commemorate the life of Queen Elizabeth II. The project aimed to return brownfield land to a biodiverse garden while meeting ambitious sustainability targets. The site presented several challenges, including areas of contaminated soil, invasive species such as Mare’s Tail, and the demolition of redundant glasshouses and structures.

Fulkers provided Programme Management and Project Support, Building Surveying, Contract Administration and Cost Management during the site clearance and landscape works. A pre-demolition audit identified opportunities to reuse materials from the existing structures, including steel and concrete, supporting a circular economy approach. Soil remediation and demolition activities were coordinated within a single contract to improve efficiency and reduce programme risk. Our Programme Manager championed the implementation of BREEAM Infrastructure from the outset, ensuring sustainability remained central to the project.

The site has been successfully cleared and transformed into a new garden commemorating the life of Queen Elizabeth II. The completed landscape now provides a tranquil space for reflection in central London, featuring two acres of biodiverse planting designed to support wildlife and offer an accessible green space for visitors to enjoy.

“It’s been a privilege to help deliver a project of this significance. Transforming a challenging, disused site into a peaceful, biodiverse garden that commemorates the life of Queen Elizabeth II is something the whole team is incredibly proud of. The space now offers a place for people to connect with nature and reflect, right in the centre of London.”
